For clubs, groups and community organisations
Make your group easier to find and join
A lot of local life is hidden in plain sight.
Clubs, societies, volunteer groups and community organisations can be difficult to discover unless you already know where to look. Understead gives that activity a place in the wider local picture.
Add or update the group so people nearby can see what it does, what's happening and how to get involved.
Already on Understead? Find the group first. If the details are wrong or out of date, send an update for the existing group below instead of creating a copy.
People shouldn't have to already know about a group to find it
A weekly club can have been running for twenty years and still be almost invisible to somebody who moved into the area last month. A society may have a good website, but only appear if somebody already knows its name. A notice on a hall door helps the people already passing it.
Understead brings groups and their activities into the wider local picture, so somebody looking for something to do can discover the organisation without already knowing it exists.
Be part of the local picture
The group appears alongside other local organisations, activities and places: on its town page, in Search and in what's on, instead of living in an isolated directory.
Show what's actually happening
Recurring meetings, sessions and activities can feed local what's-on discovery, where the details can be checked against a current public source.
Help people understand the group
What it does, where it meets, who it's for, how to join or get in touch, and whether it's open to new people right now.
Build continuity
People can follow the group through Understead so the relationship doesn't disappear after one visit. Sending updates to followers is an organiser capability and stays verification-gated.
One group page can hold a lot of local activity
If one organisation runs ten regular sessions, don't create ten separate organisation pages. Keep the organisation together: add its recurring activities beneath it, so residents can see both the group itself and what's happening next.
A choir with its weekly rehearsal. A u3a with dozens of interest groups. A sports club with its regular sessions. One page each, everything underneath.
Running classes or workshops as a business? This page is for non-commercial groups, clubs, societies and community organisations. A membership fee or contribution doesn't make a club a business. But if you mainly run paid classes, workshops or experiences as a business, add an activity business instead.
Spend here. Join here. Show up here.
Add or update a community group
We'll check the details and public sources you give us, then add or update the group's page. Sending group details does not give access to the group's followers or organiser tools; organiser access requires separate verification.
Why it matters
A place is more than its shops
Local businesses matter. So do the clubs, volunteer groups, associations, societies and regular activities that give people reasons to know one another and take part. Understead is being built to make all of that easier to find.
